Our Vision
Our Story
Our journey began long before the Society for Animal Welfare was officially established in 2015. It all started in 2000 when our founder, Maria Danthy, witnessed the heart-wrenching struggle of a mother dog who had just given birth to five puppies in a dry drainage ditch. Coming from a poor family herself, Maria understood the pain of hunger and decided to provide the most basic need to this mother dog—a daily meal.
The love and gratitude she received from the dog were overwhelming. This simple act of kindness marked the beginning of a lifelong commitment. Gradually, the number of dogs Maria fed increased, as more animals in need crossed her path. Today, Maria feeds approximately 150 stray dogs and about 70 stray cats every day, without fail. Whether facing the challenges of a pandemic or personal financial hardships, Maria has remained unwavering in her dedication.
The Society for Animal Welfare embodies Maria’s vision of humanity at its best, extending compassion and assistance to the most vulnerable street animals.
